About the Measures

The HIV/AIDS Bureau encourages all grantees to use the Bureau’s revised performance measures, including the Core performance measures.

The Core performance measures emphasize the essential aspects of HIV care and treatment and align with the milestones along the HIV care continuum.  Also, the Core performance measures have completed the rigorous National Quality Forum infectious disease endorsement process.  Included in the revised performance measure portfolio are the seven common core measures, which are approved by Secretary Kathleen Sebelius for use across all Department of Health and Human Services programs to monitor HIV prevention, treatment, and comprehensive care services.

Given the emphasis on using performance measures to improve patient health, grantees may trend performance measures over time and analyze performance measures for disparities in care. Disparity analyses may include review data for difference in performance in gender, race/ethnicity, age, insurance status, HIV risk, among others.
